For a chess player, chess pieces are like specific tools in a toolbox. We need to know how to use them best, like a craftsman knows their tools. We shouldn't use a screwdriver to hammer in a nail; and we shouldn't use the queen just for defence. This series will show you in great detail the specific qualities of each chess piece,

so that you can maximize their effectiveness and thus improve your game. Queens are the true ladies of the chessboard. They are dangerous attackers, but poor defenders. They dislike dirty work, and often wait until other pieces prepare space for them.

Let us learn together how to find the best spot for the queen in the early middlegame, how to navigate this piece around the board, how to time the queen attack, how to decide whether to exchange it or not, and much more!

• Video running time: 5 hours (English)

• Extra: Additional database with exercises

• Training with ChessBase apps – Play key positions against Fritz on various levels

For a chess player, chess pieces are like specific tools in a toolbox. We need to know how to use them best, like a craftsman knows their tools. We shouldn't use a screwdriver to hammer in a nail; and we shouldn't use the queen just for defence. This series will show you in great detail the specific qualities of each chess piece, so that you can maximize their effectiveness and thus improve your game. Everyone knows that a rook is dangerous on the 7th rank, and that it belongs behind the pawn. However, there is so much more to learn about this inconspicuous piece!

Let us explore together how the rooks should enter the game in the early middlegame, how they operate on open files and how they sometimes join a deadly attack, being transferred in front of the pawn chain. We will also discuss the cooperation of the rooks and many more topics.

Markos: Middlegame Secrets Vol.3: The Career Paths of Bishops
For a chess player, chess pieces are like specific tools in a toolbox. We need to know how best to use them, just as a craftsman knows his tools. We shouldn't use a screwdriver to hammer in a nail; and we shouldn't close the position when we have the bishop pair. In this video course we will explore in depth some familiar concepts regarding the bishops. For example, everyone knows that a bishop-pair should grant him a positional edge. However, almost no-one knows how to make use of this strategical asset. Also, you probably know the concept of a "good" and "bad" bishop. But in some positions this concept is crucial, in others totally irrelevant. Can you discern them? Also, we will explore qualities of bishops that you have probably never heard of. We will focus on the diagonals the bishops are operating on, on maneuvers of bishops from one flank to another, and of course on the opposite-coloured bishops. • Video running time: 4 hours 44 minutes • Extra: Training with ChessBase apps – Play-out-positions against Fritz on various levels Including download & stream for iPad, tablet etc: can be unlocked with imprinted key Jan Markos is a Slovak chess grandmaster, coach, and author, a former European Youth Champion. Markos: Middlegame Secrets – Vol. 4: The Secret Lives of Knights
For a chess player, chess pieces are like specific tools in a toolbox. We need to know how best to use them, just as a craftsman knows his tools. We shouldn't use a screwdriver to hammer in a nail; and we shouldn't position the knights on the edge of the board. Knights are mysterious creatures. They add irrational content to any position. However, in this video tutorial you will learn how to tame them. We will focus on how to create an outpost for a Knight and how to maneuver with this piece to get maximum activity from it. We will talk about the knight's soul mates: the queen and the passed pawn. We will also focus on positions where knights are vulnerable or hopelessly passive: typically when they are behind the pawn chains in which knight are vulnerable or hopelessly passive: typically, this happens when they are located behind the pawn chain. • Video running time: 4 hours 39 minutes • Extra: Training with ChessBase apps - Play-out-positions against Fritz on various levels Including download & stream for iPad, tablet etc: can be unlocked with imprinted key Jan Markos is a Slovak chess grandmaster, coach, and author, a former European Youth Champion. Markos: Middlegame Secrets – Vol. 5: The Inner Strength of Kings
For a chess player, chess pieces are like special tools in a toolbox. We need to know how best to use them, just as a craftsman knows his tools. We shouldn't use a screwdriver to hammer in a nail; and we shouldn't write off the king as a vulnerable creature in need of constant care and protection. Because in this video course, kings will play a different role: a role of strong and active pieces. We will explore how Kings can be helpful in defence and prophylaxis, or even in attack! We will see that they can often take care of themselves, for example by moving from one flank to another. We will also answer the eternal question in many positions: Where should the king be castled? • Video running time: 4 hours 46 minutes • Extra: Training with ChessBase apps - Play-out-positions against Fritz on various levels Including download & stream for iPad, tablet etc: can be unlocked with imprinted key Jan Markos is a Slovak chess grandmaster, coach, and author, a former European Youth Champion.
